A lone boat moors where moonlight floods the bay,do not leave the boatman to steer alone.Take the long pole yourself, ask the way across—one honest oar, and water and cloud grow wide.

Reading

This lot bids you not delegate the crossing: take the pole yourself, meet each comer in person. An oar pulled in sincerity widens the way—yet where the boat lands rests with Heaven; ask only of your own heart.
